VIOLET Publishes State of the Art Report on XR Tools for I/EWE Training

The VIOLET project has
published its State of the Art Report on XR Tools for I/EWE Training,
offering an overview of how Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality
technologies are currently being used in welding and industrial education.
The report explores their potential to support the training of International/European
Welding Engineers and provides an important knowledge base for the next
stages of the project.
VIOLET is an Erasmus+ project bringing together vocational
education and training organisations, welding institutes, qualification
bodies and technology specialists from across Europe. Its main objective is
to develop XR-based learning resources that can modernise and enrich the
training leading to the International/European Welding Engineer qualification,
in line with the harmonised EWF/IIW system.
Developed within the project’s research and
training-needs work, the report combines national perspectives from Poland,
Portugal, Romania and Slovenia with a wider European view. It reviews
current I/EWE training approaches, examines the existing XR tools
landscape and considers the main opportunities and conditions for
integrating these technologies into welding engineer education. The work was
coordinated by Augmented Training Services/Seabery with contributions
from the VIOLET partners.
The report will now support the project’s upcoming
consultation with trainers, training centres and I/EWE professionals.
The results of this next phase will help the consortium refine the training
needs identified and guide the development of VIOLET’s future learning
content and XR resources.
EWF contributed to the report by providing the
European perspective on the I/EWE qualification framework and the
competences expected from welding engineers. This involvement helps ensure that
the project’s future training resources remain connected to the harmonised
qualification system and to the practical requirements of training providers,
professionals and industry.
