AM Village 2026: Days 3 and 4 spotlight AILEEN “AM for Defence” Training Pilot

As AM Village continued this week at Albacete Air Base (Spain), days 3 and 4 shifted the focus from foundational alignment to hands-on skills development through an AILEEN pilot dedicated to “AM for Defence”. Framed within the AM Village, this course reinforced how competence development support reliable additive manufacturing deployment in demanding environments, such as defence.
The activity was promoted by EWF, and implemented by the Spanish CoVE composed by Idonial, Sicnova and Novaindef with contributions from Fan 3D. Under the title “SW20/26 Certificate Training Course in AM Design for Defence”, the session, which was attended by nearly 15 participants, followed the AILEEN curriculum which focused on full AM lifecycle from a defence perspective by covering key considerations from metal and polymer selection through to design standards and field-relevant use cases. Participants explored advanced design approaches and tools to optimise part performance, while providing vital feedback to help shape future European defence training standards.
AILEEN complements EWF’s wider contribution to AM Village by linking defence requirements with structured competence development and European qualification-oriented training approaches.
