EWF Hosts Second “Professionals of the Future” Workshop: Sustainable Drivers

Lisbon, 21 October 2025 – As part of the 67th EWF General Assembly, the European Federation for Welding, Joining and Cutting (EWF) held the second edition of the “Professionals of the Future” workshop, bringing together representatives from national welding societies, training and certification bodies, and industry stakeholders.

The workshop focused on the transformation of manufacturing professions in response to digitalisation, sustainability, and the growing integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into education and qualification systems.

The event featured an inspiring presentation on Ireland’s Green Transition through Further Education and Training (FET) by Susan Gill, highlighting how green skills development and national education strategies can drive sustainable growth in manufacturing and construction sectors.

Following this, participants engaged in thematic sessions exploring AI in training, the evolution from qualification to certification, and the role of training materials, teachers, and trainers in shaping adaptable, future-ready learning ecosystems.

Interactive roundtable discussions and pitch sessions provided a platform for members to share best practices, innovative approaches, and insights into the challenges and opportunities faced by professionals in the manufacturing field. Topics included leveraging digital tools for training efficiency, embedding sustainability into technical education, and fostering a human-centred approach to skills development.

The session concluded with an open survey and feedback round, reinforcing the collaborative spirit of the EWF community and its commitment to ensuring that the European qualification system continues to anticipate and meet the evolving needs of industry and society.

The “Professionals of the Future” workshop once again demonstrated EWF’s dedication to building a skilled, sustainable, and digitally empowered workforce, ensuring that Europe remains at the forefront of manufacturing excellence.

See you all next year!
