EWF is proud to support the AIRISE Hackathon, a Europe-wide initiative connecting Artificial Intelligence (AI) innovation with industrial manufacturing challenges.

Organized under the umbrella of the AIRISE Project, the hackathon runs from June 28 to August 31, 2025, and invites students, researchers, developers, SMEs, and AI enthusiasts to solve a high-impact manufacturing problem: detecting machining chatter in CNC machines using binary time-series classification.

A Challenge Rooted in Real Industry Needs:
The hackathon leverages real industrial datasets from the Microelectronic Circuits Centre Ireland (MCCI), challenging participants to develop machine learning models capable of identifying machining chatter — a common and costly issue in precision manufacturing. The results of this challenge have the potential to support predictive maintenance, process optimization, and increased equipment lifespan.

This effort directly aligns with EWF’s commitment to fostering innovation and upskilling in advanced manufacturing technologies. As welding, joining, and additive manufacturing processes become increasingly digitalized, initiatives like the AIRISE Hackathon play a vital role in accelerating the adoption of AI-driven solutions and building the future-ready workforce Europe needs.

Who Can Join?

The hackathon is open to:

  • AI researchers and students
  • Digital and manufacturing SMEs
  • Industrial solution providers
  • Innovators in the field of data science and Industry 4.0
Whether you're an experienced AI practitioner or a student looking to apply your skills in a real-world industrial context, the AIRISE Hackathon offers a unique opportunity to collaborate, compete, and contribute to the digital transformation of European manufacturing.
