SME-HAMSTER

New Harmonized Models for Skills Transfer to SME, Identifying a European Plastic Welding Repository

Harmonized European welding curriculum guidelines are currently enforced in 33 European countries. However, SME’s frequently often lack tangible knowledge on how to structure, transfer, deploy and disseminate highly specialized in-company obtained know-how, and practical skills obtained through daily on-the-job just-in-time training. Current training practises don’t include harmonization of skills transfer principles (only the curriculum), i.e.:

i) ICT solutions supporting use of distance learning technologies;
ii) Methodologies for distributed production of learning content;
iii) Distributed learning related training systems and services.

Project Results

The results are applicable to training practises in multiple sectors. The following outputs are envisaged:

Design of educational content and train-the-trainer program mixing activity based training and presence at distance;
Deliver activity based content specifications and train-the-training courses to plastic welder trainers, tutors and mentors;
Validation of a standardized new VCC – Visual Communication and Collaboration environment for SME/VET trainers for the effective integration of common quality criteria for qualification of teachers, BLT – Blended Learning and Training methodologies and activity management for SME in-company training environments. A certification scheme for plastic welding trainers is expected to be obtained through cooperation with EWF;
Specification of a limited European Plastic Welding Repository based on European standards for BLT and EWF Guidelines. Validation through SME training/VET schools in the above pedagogical set-up covering the targeted areas for education.

The SME-HAMSTER Project started in October 2006 and concluded in September 2008. The project was co-financed by the Leonardo da Vinci Programme.
